Kozhencherry St. Thomas Mar Thoma Parish and GGP
Kozhencherry and its Mar Thoma parish are integral parts of the Mar Thoma Church, so is for our Kaithavana family, although now settled in Ranni. The mighty , majestic edifice is one of the two and a half parishes the Mar Thoma Church was granted through court orders when it got seperated from the Jacobite Church. It is a matter of pride for all of us that GGP and family were members of this ancient parish before departing to Ranni. Probably, as matters and chronology of events existed, GGP was baptised and also got married to GGM in this parish. All our great grant parents -Chalumkal Appachen to Kunjukunju Appachen were baptised in this parish. Probably, Chalumkal Appachen and Elanthur Amma also got married in this parish. In front of the parish lay ,the now Kavumthundiyil Purayidam stretching to the banks of River Pampa -which once was the property of GGP. I vivdly recollect when Graciammamma (D/O of Unnichayen) got married to Thankachayen of Samudayathil, Kozhencherry, some fifty years ago,the marriage party from Ranni travelled by Unnichayen’s bus KOGATHU- and rested in a house situated in this Kavumthundiyal Purayidam which looked similar to our Tharavadu house in Ranni, before proceeding to the Kozhencherry St. Thoma Parish for the wedding. Later I learned that GGP and family were staying in the very same house . GGP was not in the marriage party as he was no more. But GGM was there, if I remember correctly.
In connection with the marriage of my two sons in Kozhencherry Parish on Wednesday, the 23rd of September 2009, I had to make several trips to the Church. In one of the trips, I was fortunate to see GGP’s house there , still intact . I urge all our family members to have a lasting glimpse of that house, before the present owner may demolish it. All the surrounding old houses have been demolished and new modern houses are constructed in an around. But GGP’s house still stands alone there impregnant with many untold and not recorded stories of our generations. These facts were emphatically ascertained by Kochumon of Mulamoottil Thundiyathu of Kozhencherry -(father of Annu, whom Stan married) as he made extensive enquiries about us before the marriage proposal was agreed upon. The decision to conduct the marriage of Zenith and Stanley was providential and wrought by , I strongly belive , God and the Lord All Mighty. The initial decision was to conduct the marriage of Zenith at the Bethel Mar Thoma Parish, Mannamruthy on the 21st of September, 2009. But the turn of events, as look back now , seems to be driven by an unseen invisible force. It was a spontaneous decision . But as we were standing inside the Church, and the Holy Sacrement of marriage of two brothers of GGP’s 4th generation grand sons being solemnised by the Very Rev. A.C. Kurian Achen, I felt the revisitation of the undying spirit of my Great Grand Pa, a fulfillment of a broken promise and the menting of some broken threads of the Kaithavana fabrics. It was a going back to my home, for finding wives , re-nacting the e Biblical search for wives for my sons.
